Work is getting underway for an expansion of SUNY Broome Community College’s Mechanical Building.

Ground has been broken on the $12.5 million project for the Paul and Mary Calice and Mildred Barton Advanced Manufacturing Center.

In addition to more space for programs, the building will be energy efficient, using solar panels and geothermal heating and cooling.

The project is being funded with money allocated from the State University of New York, the New York State NYSERDA program, and the BCC Foundation among other sources.

College officials say they expect construction to be finished by the start of the 2018 fall semester.
