Rhode Island correctional authorities are deliberately thwarting efforts by federal immigration agents to take into custody, criminal undocumented immigrations being released from state prisons or police custody, independent candidate for governor Joe Trillo charged Thursday.

“The State of Rhode Island is basically a sanctuary state,” charged Trillo, standing outside the Maximum Security prison at the Adult Correctional Institutions.

“They won’t do anything in any way to assist or help ICE agents who are trying to get ahold of a criminal illegal alien.”

“They’re allowing these illegal criminals to go out on the street and work amongst our population, which I think is a big mistake,” Trillo said.

If elected, Trillo said, he would cooperate fully with ICE and any other federal agency.
